Aníbal Godoy is a Center Mid from Panama City, Panama. Godoy is 29 years old and he is 6”0, 175lbs. He has played professionally for 8 years, playing for Chepo FC (Panama), Honvéd FC (Hungary), San Jose (U.S.), and now, Nashville SC.
Godoy plays primarily Center Defensive Mid though he can play Centerback or Center Mid if needed. He is left footed, likely making him more suited to play Left Defensive mid in a formation like 4-2-3-1. Godoy reminds me of Moussa Sissoko. Godoy is slightly shorter than Sissoko though he is aggressive, a strong defender, and a great holding midfielder.
Nashville SC Manager, Gary Smith, has used many formations throughout his managing career. Most recently, Smith has used a 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1, and a 3-5-2. If Nashville were to play a 4-2-3-1, like they did in the USL, Godoy would likely play one of two positions:
This is likely unimportant though during the offseason, Godoy underwent surgery on his abdomen after suffering an injury on international duty with Panama, sidelining him for six weeks. This is worth monitoring thought it will probably be trivial.
I am excited to see Godoy play and I am very happy Nashville has a solid defensive mid. Nashville currently has 3 goalkeepers, 11 defenders, 9 midfielders, and 8 forwards. With 31 players, the roster is mostly filled out and this will likely be the roster Nashville plays Atlanta with. The roster is coming to fruition and the season is fast approaching.
